This year, 2022, is the centennial of the birth of upright bassist, bandleader, and composer Charles Mingus (1922-1979).
Mingus’ album "Mingus Ah Um" was released in 1959 - a watershed year for jazz that also saw the release of Ornette Coleman's "The Shape of Jazz to Come", Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" and Dave Brubeck's "Take Five." Despite the competition that year, Mingus’ release is not overshadowed.
Kurt Ribak leads his band in a tribute to “Mingus Ah Um”, which he always described as a primary influence on him, leading Ribak to study Mingus’ music at Berklee College of Music.
The band features Kurt Ribak on bass, Greg Sankovich on keyboards, Lincoln Adler on saxophone, and David Rokeach on drums.
